In a time where it seems the latest golf trend is to wear the brightest boldest color, regardless of look, seems to be the norm (and yes I am as guilty of this more than most) Devereux has made a line of clothes that look like “proper threads” for the golf course, office or a night out on the town.
In 2013 Robert and Will Brunner went looking for a style that would bridge the gap between today’s modern styles and the progressive styles worn by the legends of the game like Arnie, Hogan and Palmer. When they couldn’t find anything they were looking for they launched Devereux in 2013 in Los Angeles California, adding a much needed simple yet sophisticated look to the game of golf. Being from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, I can easily see Devereux’s line of golf attire being worn on the sailboats that fill the Chesapeake Bay on a sunny day, in my office and on the golf course. Their line of clothes is designed to make you look as great as you feel in one of their shirts.
Devereux makes sweaters and pants as well however for their spring collection we only tested and reviewed their polo’s, however if their other lines are anything like their golf polo’s you won’t be disappointed. The Polo’s for 2015 come in 6 styles, the below snippets are taken direction from Devereux’s press release.
Luna – A luxurious lightweight cut-and-sew is a play on our Brunner shirt. Its bold top cut-and-sew piece contrasts with our fashion colors.
Aristotle – The most unique shirt in this collection. Inspired by the waves of the sea, it features a waved cut-and-sew piece across the chest, comes in many colorways, and is perfect for travels to any resort.
Delphine – A modern shirt with a bold print across the chest, it brings the collection a modern flare via a unique, two-color contrasting print. A very playful and easy-going piece for the course or beach.
EOS – This simple printed shirt is inspired by sailors and their boats. It features a very nautical look, with its color palette and striped print work. If you’re out sailing or getting ready for a round at your favorite resort, this shirt is a go-to.
Argo – Timeless, it’s the collection’s most detailed shirt. It’s a revamped version of the white collar polo, featuring a hidden button-down collar and self fabric piping — for a sophisticated look. After 18 holes, you’re ready to sit down at a five-course dinner in this classic shirt.
Brunner – Our renowned shirt remains a staple for Spring 2015, featuring every color from the collection.
We tested two different styles, the EOS in white with a subtle Apricot striping across the front and the ARGO in Pebble (a bluish color) with a white collar. The first thing I will say is the shirts are cut about a size small, so for bigger guys you will need to order a size up from normal. The new term going around is the “Dad Bod” and if you have this body style, you will need to order one size bigger, if you don’t know what a “Dad Bod” is you can order the correct size.
The shirts are very light weight and breathe great, you can look great and still feel comfortable even on the hottest of days. I mentioned above I could easily see these shirts being worn on the sailboats I see on the Chesapeake Bay on sundays and after reading their inspiration behind the EOS style, it is designed exactly with that style in mind. One of my favorite fashion styles is the white collar ARGO style which has great color polo’s with a white collar and a hidden button down collar that looks great on and of the course in any setting.
Overall you can’t go wrong with any of the styles of Deverux’s Spring 2015 Christina O Collection, from subtle touches of color to pure comfort these shirts are great. At $90 a polo they are on par with other premium golf clothing companies, but these shirts can be worn in many more settings than your standard golf polo.
