Interview By: Chris Conley
Recently one of our reader’s asked us to review Radius Roll Putter’s and after reaching out to them on twitter @RadiusRoll, I got in touch with the CEO and Founder Rick Monroe. After learning a little bit more about their technology and story, I knew we had to get our hands on one of their putters and review them. I had the opportunity to ask Rick a few questions and you can read that interview below. Look for our review of Radius Roll and their F/P Tour Milled Putter, when we put it head to head with the biggest name in the putter industry, Scotty Cameron, Rick has told me he has no doubts the Radius Roll Putter will out perform the Scotty Cameron, we can’t wait to find out!
AGG: For our readers who have never heard of Radius Roll, how long have you been around, who started Radius Roll?
Rick: RadiusRoll (originally R&B Putters) has been in existence since 2009 and was developed by Rick Monroe, CEO/Founder. In 2012, we changed our name from R&B Putters to RadiusRoll to better depict what our putters do. This was also the same time in which we moved our manufacturing from China to the USA.
AGG: What sets Radius Roll apart from other putter makers on the market?
Rick: Our RadiusRoll Technology! Our radius face design creates perfect forward roll. All flat faced putters make the golf ball go airborne for approximately 10″ when struck. Once they land, they hop and skid before starting to roll. The best comparison is billiard balls. When the cue ball strikes a number ball, the energy transfer is perfect. This happens because they have the same radius and they strike each other at their equators. Our putters do the same thing. Our face is the same radius as a golf ball and the putter is designed to strike the ball on its equator every time. The byproduct of this process is amazingly great feel. The ball rolls perfectly and feel is so soft and yet so solid, it feels like you are putting through butter.
AGG: Do you own any patents?
Rick: We have our name and tag lines trademarked. The USGA and R&A sets the standards for clubs and since there are only so many ways a club can be made, a patent is almost useless.
AGG: Can you putters be purchased anywhere besides your website?
Rick: The places where are putters can be purchased is growing daily. In the Chicagoland area, we are in many high end pro shops and retailers. We have retailers/fitters in many places in the mid-west, Florida, various locations on the East Coast, in Korea, and to be Japan. The best way to find a retailer in your area is to go on our website, www.radiusroll.com, and look under retailers.
AGG: Does Radius Roll have any mini tour or tour presence currently?
Rick: RadiusRoll has players on the Champions Tour, LPGA, LPGA Legends, Web.com, and Mini Tours. We are proud to say we have some very big names using our putters and all are using them because our putters are the best tool they can find. Not one professional golfer is being paid by RadiusRoll to use our products.
AGG: Does Radius Roll have a specific fitting process to help guide the golfer for what putter will benefit them the most?
Rick: RadiusRoll does have a specific fitting process to guide and fit the golfer.
AGG: Radius Roll is one of the hottest name in the golf industry right now, why do you think that is?
Rick: We are not just another putter! All of our putters have a value added functional face which creates perfect forward roll. This translates into great feel, great distance control, and more holed putts. Many putter companies talk about making the ball roll. We simply do it!
AGG: If you could give are readers one putting tip what would that be?
Rick: Roll the ball! Sounds simple and with our putters it is. Regardless of what putter you are using, make an effort to “roll the ball”, don’t “hit it.”
AGG: What can our readers look forward to from Radius Roll in the next year?
Rick: Because our putters are made from and must adhere to a certain formula to achieve the results we have, our putters will not have any drastic changes. There will slight variations, different colors, and different materials, but RadiusRoll will never stray too far from the traditional look. We will continue to make the best rolling and feeling putters available and you will continue making more putts using them.
